FRIENDICOES:

A Distinguished Animal NGO near me in Delhi, NCR, Gurgaon

Founded in the 1970s by a group of compassionate school children, Friendicoes began as a kindness club for distressed stray animals under the Defence Colony flyover, with support from then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s regime. Registered as a society in April 1979, Friendicoes SECA (Society for the Eradication of Cruelty to Animals) has since evolved into a prominent NGO, recognized by the Animal Welfare Board of India.

Despite numerous changes over the decades, the unwavering commitment of Geeta Seshamani (current Vice President) and the late Gautam Barat (ex-treasurer) has remained constant. Inspired by Crystal Rogers, a legend in India’s animal welfare, Geeta Seshamani continues to lead Friendicoes towards its mission of providing care and compassion to animals in need.

Today, Friendicoes operates a substantial shelter under the Defence Colony flyover, boasting an Out Patient’s Department, an in-house clinic, two operation theaters, a Lab & X-ray unit, and a sanctuary in Gurgaon housing approximately a thousand animals. The organization also runs a 24/7 ambulance service for strays and an emergency night clinic for pets.

ACTIVITIES:

Animal Ambulance Service:
Friendicoes provides a Helpline from 9 am to 9 pm to assist distressed strays needing medical attention. Supported by three ambulances, the service picks up injured or sick animals, treats them at the shelter, and returns them to their home area post-recovery. While facing constraints, Friendicoes strives to attend to priority cases such as hit and runs, maggot wounds, and sick animals. The organization is actively seeking funding to restart the Night Ambulance service.

Spay/Neuter Program:
Friendicoes advocates for the spaying/neutering of stray dogs through its Animal Birth Control (ABC) program. Recognizing the issue of stray dogs in India, the organization believes in controlling their population through humane sterilization. The program addresses the urgent need to control the population of street dogs for a healthier community.

Adoption:
The Friendicoes shelter houses abandoned pets and stray animals seeking homes. The adoption team works tirelessly to find loving families for these animals, despite challenges such as lack of medical or behavioral history. The adoption program successfully rehomes about 100 animals annually, but the demand for loving homes remains high. Friendicoes emphasizes that these animals deserve a home with caring families.

Mobile Equine Clinic:
Recognizing the interdependent relationship between humans and equines in Northern India, Friendicoes introduced the Mobile Equine Clinic 30 years ago. This clinic addresses the welfare needs of working equines in Delhi and surrounding areas. With 22 stands and about 1500 animals under its care, the Equine team travels extensively, covering Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan, providing essential medical care and support to these animals.

Friendicoes SECA remains committed to its mission of compassion and care for animals, and your support is crucial in helping them continue their impactful work.
